The development of ASEAN member countries very much depends upon the capacity and capability of the peoples of ASEAN to improve their skills and knowledge on the already available and new technologies and know-how, and to effectively use their available resources to implement those technologies and know-how. Furthermore, as additional challenges, the world globalisation and new agreements on free trading has created tougher competitions for human resources with better skills, knowledge, competencies and products. These are also the challenges faced by ASEAN’s agri-business sector and its dried agricultural products, which has remarkably progressed and become one of the thrusts in the region’s economic development.

This series of workshops is one of ASEAN Foundation’s responses to the challenge, as it aims to help ASEAN member countries in adopting modern drying technology through an appropriate training and skills enhancement. The series of workshops will also provide a forum for gathering and exchanging latest information on drying technology from the entire region.

As one of the outputs of the workshops, this publication will serve as resource material to ensure that the skills, knowledge, and information shared during the workshops are not only limited to the workshop participants, but also reaching and benefiting other stakeholders beyond the workshop venue.
